During the early morning we passed north of the Whitsunday Islands
and our plan today was to have a sleep-in, then go to Horizon Court for a yummy brekky, then saunter down to catch a tender over to Airlie Beach – after everyone else had left the ship. But, no such luck as around 5.45am our cabin started to shake and there was a noise so loud that we nearly hit the ceiling – OMG– it's the first tender being lowered right under US!!!! This went on spasmodically for over an hour and then we managed to get back to sleep for an hour. This cabin no. has now been "marked as a 'no go' for future reference" – fortunately there are no more tender ports, thank heavens for that!!!
Breakfast was great and we headed for the tender to take us ashore - still had to wait for over half an hour at 11am!!! But it was on one of the large tourist boats, so we got over to Airlie in good time.
Airlie doesn't change much but it was Saturday and very warm, and the markets were in full swing – just the most glorious place to spend a few hours watching the beautiful boats, having a light lunch and buying a couple of bottles of 'lemonade'!!..….. Got the ship's tender back, fortunately it was smoother than the last time we tendered back to the ship in Airlie last year, but it took forever.
Only four for dinner tonight on our big table so our Maitre d' (Francois Ferat) has asked 3 people on the next table to join us tomorrow night. We ended up at the Wheelhouse Bar after listening to David Crathorne on the piano, he's good (but where are you Maurizio – brilliant piano player from our Singapore/Sydney cruise??) The usual 'beautiful dancers' were gliding around the dance floor, (so we just sit & watch), plus there's a lovely great granny 'doing her thing' to the music of The 23 Degrees Duo.
PHOTOS: Took this photo standing in the middle of the road – entry to the Beach Walk; The colourful and lively beach markets; and our view of 'our ship' whilst we ate lunch.
