DAY 17 - Friday, 28th Sept. - Hong Kong

The wobbles have subsided and we have arrived at the brand new Ocean Terminal South in the prosperous Tsim Sha Tsui area of Kowloon.  The view from our window across to Hong Kong Island with thousands (apparently more than 11,000 buildings over 14 floors) of high rise sprouting from the ground, Star Ferries everywhere and lots of boats of all kinds, is fantastic – albeit a little hazy.

We walked through the Ocean Terminal, which houses hundreds of designer shops, to the outside where we were hit not only by the heat but the many tailor hawkers!!  Colin decided that he might like a new sports coat, so we made one man's day very happy and entered his shop…..  Measurements taken and fabric selected, we were asked to return early evening for a fitting.  We continued walking around this mass of shops and also decided to enquire about new prescription glasses – came out of the shop, having ordered 2 pairs (Colin also had his eyes checked)!!  It was back to the ship for lunch and freshen up as we had planned to visit family living in Repulse Bay during the afternoon.

We crossed Victoria Harbour on one of the famous Star Ferries, (apparently they are 150 years old, and they look it) enjoying all the wonderful sights, sounds and smells and found the taxi stand.  My cousin lives in a delightful apartment overlooking Repulse Bay and the view is just brilliant – we had a great catch up but sadly our visit was too short, as we had to get back for that jacket fitting.  A few adjustments needed to be made so they suggested we come back at 9am, next day.  We returned to the ship for a quick meal as we had "the best seats in the house" to watch the laser light show which emanates from many of the waterfront high rise office blocks, at 8pm – and it was wonderful!!!!  We then watched a traditional show of acrobats, magic and lion dancing perform in the Princess Theatre and then it was off to bed.

PHOTOS:  Our big ship at her berth;  The hustle, bustle & colour of the streets in Kowloon;  They only seem to use bamboo as scaffolding – even on the high rises – they guy didn't even have any safety gear;  The massive Apple store on Hong Kong Island – 2 floors!!;  The pretty beach at Repulse Bay;  The Clock Tower and Star Ferry Wharf; Laser Light Show – brilliant.
